A Labor MP said it was not too late for the Home Office to listen to the criticism and speed up compensation payments to the Windrush generation.
Diane Abbott said some ministers would not respect those involved or understand the humiliation they have endured, but are “waiting for this generation to die”.
Thousands of people who came to Britain in the 1950s and 1960s are still awaiting a decision on their claims for compensation, while still more people can apply.
