Microsoft stopped selling its products and services in Russia after invading the country in Ukraine.
Big tech companies like Apple and Dell have made similar decisions.
Microsoft said it paused other aspects of its business in the country to comply with government sanctions.
It added that it is providing cybersecurity support to Ukraine to defend against Russian-initiated cyberattacks.
“Since the beginning of the war, we have countered Russian positioning, destructive or destructive actions against more than 20 Ukrainian government, IT and financial sector organizations,” Microsoft President Brad Smith said in a statement.
Several tech companies have also taken steps to restrict state-controlled Russian media outlets like RT and Sputnik.
Earlier this week, Microsoft removed RT’s mobile apps from the Windows App Store.
Facebook, Google and YouTube have taken action to stop state-run Russian media from monetizing ads on their platforms.
Cisco, Oracle, Netflix and Spotify have also suspended operations in the country.
Airbnb has halted all bookings in Russia and Belarus and offered free accommodation to 100,000 refugees from Ukraine.
Dan Ives, analyst at Wedbush Securities, said: “With the horrifying atrocities coming out of Ukraine, we expect more tech pundits to follow the same path and pull the plug on Russia by this weekend.”
Chinese companies, including Huawei, Xiaomi and Alibaba, have so far refused to comment on whether they would sever business ties in Russia, according to business news channel CNBC.
