Ukraine: Volodymyr Zelensky to address UK MPs in Commons

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will address British MPs via video link on Tuesday, the Speaker of the House of Commons has announced.

Sir Lindsay Hoyle said he was delighted to grant Mr Zelensky’s “historic” request, with the address taking place at 17:00 GMT.

The speech will be shown on screens installed in the hall.

Also, more than 500 headphones will be provided to broadcast an English translation of his statement.

Sir Lindsay said: “Every MP wants to hear directly from the President, who will be speaking to us live from Ukraine, so this is an important opportunity for the House.

“Thank you again to our incredible staff for working so quickly to make this historic address possible.”

At last week’s Prime Minister’s Questions, MPs stood to applaud Vadym Prystaiko, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Britain, who was watching parliamentary proceedings from the tribune.
