Chef Joe Reale faces off for National Clam Chowder Day on “The Talk”

NEW YORK – It’s National Clam Chowder Day, so the chefs in Boston and New York will compete on Friday afternoon at “The Talk” to see who has the best soup: New England or Manhattan.

Joe Reale of Popei’s Clam Bar and Seafood Restaurant in Bethpage, Long Island, represents New York.

He faces Meredith Tipping of the Boston Sail Loft.

Both are family businesses that have been making soup for decades.

Reale explains what makes Popei’s Manhattan Clam Soup stand out.

“It’s just fresh produce, from potatoes, onions, tomatoes, carrots, celery. And then you have to eat a good fresh Long Island clam. All that juice comes in, you put it. That’s it. ‘secret ingredient’. He said.

The judges clearly enjoyed tasting the soup, but who won? You will need to tune in on Friday afternoon to find out.

You can watch “The Talk” right here on CBS2 at 2 p.m.
