Monthly rents skyrocket amid record inflation: “It’s impossible to prepare for”

As inflation sets the U.S. economy in motion, monthly rents are skyrocketing, causing some people to leave their homes.

Jamie Wolf, a South Florida resident who is a single mother raising three children, says her landlord increases her rent by nearly $ 1,000 a month, a 30% increase.

“It’s impossible to prepare,” Wolf told CBS News.

The clash of apartment stickers is happening across the country, rising nearly 20% last year in the U.S. In the Miami metropolitan area alone, rents have risen nearly 50%.

“They’re scared. They’ve taken advantage of everything they could,” said Diana Stanley, who helps the homeless and those on the brink of homelessness at The Lord’s Place in West Palm Beach.

Among those asking for help is a woman named Ana. He said that his rent has doubled and that with few options, he may have to live outside his car.

“You have to have a place to live. You have to have a place to bathe,” Ana said when asked how hard it is to lose her home.

“We’re all holding our breath saying,‘ When will this end? Stanley said.

But the end may not be in sight, and Stanley is worried that it could soon get much worse.

“We’re going to have a massive increase in homelessness. I don’t even think we’ve reached the tip of the iceberg,” Stanley said. “And that’s what scares us all.”
