The father of the late Selena Quintanilla – the “Queen of Texan“- says that a new album will be released, almost three decades after his death. Abraham Quintanilla said in an interview with Latin Groove News that the album to be released next month contains 13 songs and AB Quintanilla, the brother of Selena, she worked there.
“Selena hasn’t been there for 26 years,” she said last week. “It’s amazing how time goes by … What surprises me, and Suzette, my family, AB, is that 26 years later and the audience still remembers Selena. They haven’t let her go. They’re waiting for a project. that way it will come out, and I know it will be well received by the public. ”
Quintanilla said there is a “unique” element to the album: Selena’s recordings when she was 13 were digitally updated to sound like she was 23, the age Selena was before she was murdered in 1995.
“My son worked on Selena’s voice with the computers and if you listen to her, it sounds on these recordings like she did just before she died,” he said.
The only downside is the artwork that will accompany the album, according to Quintanilla. Selena’s sister Suzette Quintanilla will play a part in this part of the project, she said.
CBS News contacted Warner Music Group for comment, but did not receive a response immediately.
March 31 marks the 27th anniversary of Selena’s death. She won the best Mexican-American Grammy album for “Live” and had several American hits, and was going to cross the English pop market before being assassinated by Yolanda Saldivar, the president of her fan club. Saldivar is serving a life sentence.
However, Selena is still popular today and her music continues to resonate in North and South America. It has more than 6 million listeners each month on Spotify and its rise to fame was the subject of a Netflix series released in 2020.
