Fox News correspondent Benjamin Hall, who was injured Monday in an attack that he killed two of his colleagues near Kyiv, has been safely evacuated from Ukraine, the network announced on Wednesday.
“Ben is alert and is said to be in a good mood,” Fox presenter Bill Hemmer told viewers on Wednesday morning. “He’s dealing with the best possible care in the world.”
The channel previously said that cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski and local producer Oleksandra “Sasha” Kuvshynova died when their vehicle “was hit by an incoming fire” while they were in the field with Hall. Fox News said that an attack occurred while the team was gathering news outside the capital.
Hemmer added that Hall, who grew up in London and has passports from the United States and the United Kingdom, has been married for almost seven years and has three young daughters at home.
“It’s been a couple of heavy days out there, so that’s good news for Ben,” Hemmer said.
On Tuesday, Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott said London-based Zakrzewski had “covered almost every international news story on Fox News, from Iraq to Afghanistan to Syria during its long run. mandate with us “, and added that” his passion and talent as journalists were incomparable “.
“He was deeply committed to telling the story and his courage, professionalism and work ethic were recognized among journalists of all media,” Scott said.
Scott said the 24-year-old Kuvshynova was “incredibly talented” and had spent weeks helping network teams navigate Kyiv, gathering information and communicating with sources, “operating 24 hours a day to ensure I know the world knew what was going on in his country. ”
While giving an update on Hall on Wednesday, Hemmer told viewers, “We remind you to please keep it in your prayers, as well as Sasha and Pierre.”
The news of the attack on the Fox News crew came just a day after another American journalist, Brent Renaud, was shot and killed in Ukraine.
