Despite being loaded with spartans and warthogs left, right and center, the trailer for the upcoming Halo TV show that debuted in the Super Bowl has mostly been discussed because it features a Chevy Tahoe in the background.
Why was this car exactly there? After all, the Chevy Tahoe in question is a GMT800, a model from the early Noughties. Since this is about 500 years before Master Chief’s time, it’s unlikely that any of these cars would actually still be there.
Well, not according to Halo showrunner Steven Kane. In fact, during a chat with Polygon, Kane claimed that Tahoe was there for a reason.
Can someone explain to me why there’s a Chevy Tahoe in there #Halo TV show? pic.twitter.com/YGH1EmneAE

Kane discussed how the team at Paramount Plus worked closely with Halo developer 343, carefully considering all the props and choosing them specifically for the set. So, there’s no way something as big as a car could be made into the show without it being a careful decision by the production team.
“For people who have not spent any time in the gaming industry, there is no such thing as a quick shot to notice something,” adds Kiki Wolfkill, a studio manager at 343 and Halo’s executive producer. “We have to assume that every single frame is examined.”
Clearly, this was a pretty good premise, because people certainly noticed this apparent anachronism, which was absolutely planned and not a mistake at all.
“It’s both scary and exciting to know that people care so much,” Kane said.
Meanwhile, the production team was happy to emphasize that Halo’s show will not be the same as Halo’s Xbox classic (you’ll even see the Master Chief’s face in the show).
“What people see will be different than what they expected,” said executive producer and director Otto Bathurst. “And hopefully a strong percentage [of fans] will be happy with it.
“But listen, I’m sure it’s going to call some feathers.”
But even with some potential feathers coming up, Paramount has already announced that Halo will have a second season.
