Biden and Taoiseach both took part in the Ireland Funds National Gala on Wednesday night before the Irish leader left due to a positive test. He was scheduled to attend a day of events Thursday with prayers at the White House for St. John’s. To celebrate Patrick’s Day.
In a statement Thursday morning, Martin’s office said, “we are exploring alternatives to the personal program of events.”
The statement said Martin had tested negative as recently as Wednesday afternoon, but was tested again after learning that a member of his travel delegation had passed a positive test.
“He is feeling well and is currently isolating himself on public health advice,” the statement said.
The White House announced on Tuesday that the second Mr. Doug Emhoff tested positive for the coronavirus. He is the first member of the first or second family in the Biden administration to publicly declare a positive case of coronavirus.
Vice President Harris tested negative on Tuesday, but skipped an event with Biden “out of an abundance of caution,” her spokeswoman said.
