Kate Douglass breaks the NCAA record

The 2022 NCAA Women’s Division I Swimming and Diving Championships continue with the 50 freestyle preliminaries from the McAuley Aquatic Center at Georgia Tech.

Kate Douglass broke the NCAA and American record in 20.87 to earn the Top Seed in 50 freestyle.

The previous record was 20.90 by Cal’s Abbey wide line in 2019.

Douglass was at the NCAA Championships as soon as 9 p.m. She spent that time at the ACC Championships in the same pool.

Virginia has the top two seeds with Douglass in it Gretchen Walschwho finished on 21.09 and was ready to make a run at her teammate.

Douglass was out with 10.04, by far the fastest and back to 10.83, also the fastest top.

of Alabama Cora Dupree had the third seed 21.47, while Michigan the Maggie Mac Neil in North Carolina Senior Grace County 21.53 bound for the fourth seed.

NC State has the next two final spots with Katharine Berkoff take the sixth seed in 21.56 Kylee Alons at 21.62 in seventh place.

Alabama Senior Morgan Scott took the eighth seed in 21.72, giving Crimson Tide two finalists in the event.
