Montreal Bennedict Mathurin and his teammates from the University of Arizona’s Wildcats now know the identities of their first Premier March “Madness” tournament: they face Wright State representatives.
Wright State’s Raiders beat Bryant University’s Bulldogs by a score of 93 to 82, Wednesday night in Ohio, to qualify for the U.S. University Basketball Championship main table, among 16th-tier league leaders Section South. Wright State dropped 44 to 42 in the off-season.
Mathurin and the Wildcats, favorites of their region, will start their tournament, Friday, and will try to avoid the pike.
Tanner Holden will be the man to watch: he has been the Raiders’ top scorer for the Bulldogs, with 37 points. Trey Calvin, with 21 points, for his part also contributed greatly.
Among the Wildcats, Ben Mathurin is the one who scored his team this season with an average of 17.4 points per game, ahead of Azuolas Tubelis (14.5) and Christian Koloko (12.1).
Speaking of Mathurin, who is urged to become the Quebecer most quickly repatriated by an NBA formation in June, six of Belle Province’s representatives will take part in the March Madness this year, with Nathan Cayo (Richmond), Eze Dike (Yale), Georges Lefebvre (Vermont), Olivier-Maxence Prosper (Marquette) and Tyrese Samuel (Seton Hall).
Des Québécois in action
On Thursday night, Cayo, Lefebvre and Prosper’s teams will be in action. Richmond University also faces the Hawkeyes of the University of Iowa. Lefebvre and the representatives of Vermont will, for their part, continue to measure up to the Razorbacks of the University of Arkansas, fourth graders in the West section. Finally, Prosper meets with his teammates from Marquette University, with the prestigious University of the North Caroline.
As Mathurin, Dike and Samuel will make their entry into the tournament, Friday, with their respective training.
In addition to the University of Arizona, the three other first-class formations in their region are: Gonzaga (West), Baylor (East) and Kansas (North).
