Rennes manager Bruno Genesio has announced that Senegalese goalkeeper Alfred Gomis broke his left hand in their Ligue 1 win over Lyon on Sunday.
Gomis suffered a setback as he tried to save Moussa Dembele’s penalty in the final stages of the reunion, which puts him in deep doubt for their crucial Uefa Europa League league trip to Leicester City on Thursday.
The French club aims to tackle a two-goal deficit from the first leg in order to stay ahead of the competition.

“Alfred Gomis has a broken left hand,” Genesio told the club’s website ahead of Thursday’s game at Roazhon Park.
“It happened on the action of the penalty against Lyon. We are waiting to know a little more about his unavailability.
It remains to be seen whether Gomis will be available for Senegal’s squad for their next 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Egypt later this month.
The 28-year-old was an unused replacement for Aliou Cisse’s side in their successful campaign at the Africa Cup of Nations 2021 in Cameroon.
Genesio has also provided an update on Ghana star Kamaldeen Sulemana, who has been out of action for more than a month.
He added: “Kamaldeen Sulemana will likely return after the international break. Jeremy Doku has a calf muscle problem, he will be missing on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the French coach confirms the return of Nigerian-born Lesley Ugochukwu who has played 11 Ligue 1 players so far this season.
“We have the return of Lesley Ugochukwu. Romain Salin is moving forward in his rhetoric and should be back on the field soon,” he said.
