Do you have difficulty sleeping at night or do not get enough sleep? You are not alone. More than 90 percent of Indians are sleep deprived, and 65 percent of them are potential patients for sleep apnea, according to Vikram Thaploo, CEO, Apollo TeleHealth.
To mark World Sleep Day, which is observed every year on March 18, Apollo has introduced TeleHealth ‘Good Nidra’ program, a complete sleep program for the treatment and diagnosis of sleep apnea.
Commenting on the launch of the new program, Thaploo said: “We believe it is an indeterminate need for many individuals who have not yet been officially diagnosed with OSA and are looking for comfortable or curative treatment options. This Good Nidra sleep program will provide physicians and “OSA patients with a new, patient-preferred alternative therapy that is simple, convenient, effective, and easy to use. Through this committed program, we aim to bring more patients together and significantly reduce or eliminate the burden of sleep apnea.”
What is obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)?
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a condition characterized by complete / partial obstruction of the upper respiratory tract, which interferes with normal sleep patterns. It has become highly prevalent and has a negative impact on a person’s quality of life. The condition is independently associated with an increased likelihood of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and reduced quality of life. Therefore, it is a primary concern for healthcare professionals to diagnose it as soon as possible.
Thaploo stated that sleep disorders and obesity are under consideration to add to the list of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
Meanwhile, Dr Ayesha Nazneen – Chief Medical Officer, Apollo TeleHealth stressed that sleep apnea is a serious chronic condition that affects much more than just sleep. “It affects patients’ quality of life and overall health,” she said.
With the ‘Good Nidra’ program, she believes it would be easier for patients affected with obstructive sleep apnea to manage and treat more patients on a daily basis.
All about the Good Nidra sleep program
Thaploo has proven that The Good Nidra Sleep Program includes screening and diagnosis at home / hospital through the latest technology-based devices that are cost-effective and convenient. For treatment, CPAP devices with associated facilities would be provided to remotely monitor treatment therapy to obtain better treatment outcomes. In addition, a back-end support team with sleep technicians, sleep coaches and counselors will educate and guide patients during each step of the treatment program.
How do you register for the program? Dr Nazneen explained: “All one has to do is fill out a questionnaire, then the sleep expert will connect to help diagnose, advise and interpret various clinical reports that are followed by installing the Connected CPAP device at home The program will also support the patient with constant treatment compliance monitoring and lifestyle management. This innovative new program can help the medical community as a whole address these prevalent silent killers directly and hope to save more lives and raise awareness of this deadly disease.
“Sleep is an essential component of health. While people around the world are becoming more educated and aware of the importance of sleep health, the limited number of physicians practicing this specialty is a limiting factor for patients. With initiatives such as this will make it easier for patients in India to have access to sleep specialists and world-class technologies to treat sleep disorders, “she added.
