Angry Radio 1 Big Weekend fans criticize ‘ridiculous’ system after missing tickets

Some locals are fuming after not being able to get their hands on tickets for the Radio 1 Big Weekend at War Memorial Park in Coventry. Disappointed people took to social media to share their frustration over getting their tickets missed – branding the Ticketmaster system “ridiculous.”

Tickets for Saturday are now sold out, but you can still see some of the hottest artists on Sunday, including Mabel, Lorde and George Ezra, as tickets are still on sale at Ticketmaster.

Some anxious fans were eagerly awaiting tickets to one of the biggest music events the city has ever seen this morning. But some have “given up” after fighting over 75,000 people in the queue at its busiest.

Did you manage to get tickets? Let us know in the comments section.

Laura Michelle Cooney told CoventryLive: “I’m really angry at how my session ended after entering my card details.” and it said enter postcode I made, then asked for a code I did not have. When I tried again, they sold out.

Laura had planned to celebrate her 60th birthday with her mother. She said: “Really disappointed as I was looking for my mother 60. Not very good when the people of Coventry were given priority and when you waited in line and did not get what you were waiting for.”

She was not the only Coventrian to hit the ticket sales process after failing to secure tickets for the highly anticipated event. Laura added: “Ridiculous system as they did it.”

Gary Harper told CoventryLive: “How can there be 79,000 people in front of you at the Bang at 8.30am when they go on sale and the people in Coventry were in pot 1? I was still 30,000 after 30 minutes just had give up.”

Phraortes tweeted: “Trash.” I live in Coventry – has been in line since 8:30. Locked pot 1 and gets further message: can not find tickets. Stay in line to get the same message. ”

Some saw it differently.

Some complained that it was “not fair” that the majority of tickets were allocated to Coventry residents. Hurk said: “@ BBCR1 was more than an hour in line and tickets were sold out for the big weekend and only 9,785 tickets were allocated for Birmingham and Leicester, that’s not fair!”

Sid Shorthouse tweeted: “So only 15% of Radio 1’s Big Weekend tickets are given to people who do not live in Coventry, Birmingham or Leicester. Yes, that’s fair.”

But not everything is lost. Fans can still get tickets to the upcoming music event via the Ticketmaster Ticket Exchange, where people will continue to sell their Radio 1 Big Weekend tickets at face value.

It’s the only form of resale that the BBC allows for its Big Weekend tickets, so the tab has to be practically checked every day. We asked Ticketmaster for comment.
