Driving ban for Welsh Health Minister Eluned Morgan for speeding

Welsh Health Minister Eluned Morgan has had his driving license suspended for six months.

Ms Morgan received the ban for accumulating too many points on her driving license after speeding on a 30-mile road in Wrexham.

In a statement, she said she had pleaded guilty to speeding and accepted the court’s sentence.

“I’m not proud of that and I apologize unreservedly,” she said.

Ms Morgan, Labor Member of the Senedd for Central and West Wales, was disqualified outside Mold Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

She was appointed Minister for Health and Social Services after last year’s election in Senedd and has been Minister for International Relations and the Welsh Language for the last two and a half years.

She has had a high profile as Health Secretary during the pandemic, regularly hosting Welsh Government Covid briefings and conducting rounds of media interviews.

The Minister is also a Member of the House of Lords with the formal title of Baroness Morgan and was a Member of the European Parliament between 1994 and 2009.
