DVLA staff out of work on full pay ongoing application backlog crisis | News

HRiots by state officials at the DVLA did not work at full pay for significant periods of the pandemic as managers forced themselves to watch Netflix at the expense of the public, a Times Survey can reveal.

Most of the government agency’s 6,200 employees were sent home during the initial blockade but 3,400 of them were put on paid special leave without working at all, figures show.

There were still nearly 2,000 employees on paid special leave months later, with no expectation that they would even work from home. In nine of the last 24 months, more than 500 employees were officially off work, either on paid special leave or on strike.
