Three pointers

1) Continue playing. The Eagles came out with the right spirit and finally Detroit Mercy, 95-79, at the Alico Arena on Wednesday night. Tavian Dunn-Martin had 33 points on his birthday to lead an FGCU team that plays for itself and outgoing coach Michael Fly, who was fired on March 5 but allowed the Eagles to train until eliminated. Pat Chambers was introduced as Fly’s replacement Tuesday.

2) Business as usual. Fly made a point after Wednesday’s victory to say he wanted the Eagles to focus as if he had not been let go, and to reach the opportunity to play in the Basketball Classic (formerly the CIT). While the players seemed to be doing this, Dunn-Martin also said afterwards that they wanted to send the fly on a good note.

3) Scouting the Chanticleers. This game was changed from a home against USC Upstate on Coastal Carolina by the tournament on Thursday night. Coastal Carolina beat Maryland Eastern Shore, 66-42, in its first round game, eliminating former FGCU player Dom London, who had six points. Rudi Williams came off the bench to score 18 points to lead Coastal, 3 of 6 3-pointers. Coastal was 8-8 in the Sun Belt and was upset by Georgia Southern in the first round of the conference tournament.
