Manchester United v Atletico Madrid: Biller

If it was up to Jurgen Klopp – he would offset Liverpool’s rivalry with Manchester United to sign Marcus Rashford.

In fact, the German’s admiration for the English national player is by no means a secret and he has no problem singing the love of a player from one of his biggest competitors. Exceeding the separation would be a very different story, but from a Liverpool point of view it is easy to see why they are open.

Reports surfaced on Thursday claiming the Reds are big fans of Rashford, with the 24-year-old weighing his future at Old Trafford and the “phone did not stop ringing” from clubs over his availability. Rashford is unhappy with his playing time under Ralf Rangnick who says he’s free to leave in the summer if that’s what he wants. Rashford, who was not called up to Gareth Southgate’s last England squad, also attracted interest from Barcelona. Xavi’s men have had little time left to touch the bases with the player camp over a potential move this summer.

Rashford is exactly the kind of player who would believe in Klopp and his struggles at United this season would probably be a distant memory if he makes the switch to Anfield. Klopp liked the attacking skills that Rashford had at his disposal, coupled with his vast experience of his age when he joined the United First Team as a youngster.

The Liverpool boss was full of praise for Rashford ahead of his clash with United in December as he welcomed the new generation of English talent. The German has gone so far as to say he would struggle to leave Rashford by his side if he were his player, something Rangnick clearly does not agree with.

“It’s a really good mix, the offensive potential that they have,” Klopp said. “I do not know if you are still considering it – I do not know exactly how old is Marcus Rashford? 21, 22, 23? He looks very young, meanwhile he is very experienced.” (Mason) Greenwood, (Phil) Foden , (Mason) Month, (Raheem) Sterling – Sterling is not so young anymore – (Jadon) Sancho. Wow, what a generation. Do you think who you want to release?

Rashford may have the offensive firepower to fit the mold of a Liverpool player under knockout, but the German will not bring a player to Anfield who does not fit with the ethos of the club and put the team first. Klopp, however, clearly appreciates Rashford’s character and personality as he has grown lyrical for what he does on the field.

He spoke highly of Rashford’s efforts during his campaign for free school meals and to combat child poverty in Britain, which awarded him an MBE, calling the strike a “giant in this nation”.

“Marcus Rashford stands as a giant in this nation for his courageous and tireless work on child food poverty,” Klopp said. Football gave him his platform and he used it to fight an injustice that was too easily ignored. “I’m not sure I find better words than many smarter people have said. But what Marcus started there is absolutely incredible, it’s so great. And with all the rivalry between the clubs, we are in those moments as footballers and as Humans are always united.

“It’s just great to show in a time when of course a lot of people who are really responsible for something show no sign of proper leadership. He’s a boy raised in difficult circumstances and blessed with sensational talent, obviously. But he has his roots. never forget where he came from, it’s just a shame he has to do it.

“It’s a bit of a shame but it’s wonderful too. I hope his mother is really proud of him. I do not know him but I’m also proud of him. And he plays for United which makes it really complicated! I’ve talked about Liverpool and Manchester United (rivalry) years and years ago.

“But yeah, that just shows that football in moments can be really wonderful. It shows that the topic is really really serious and that’s why everyone puts rivalry aside and thinks about the more important things in life. So I really am happy that Liverpool can show this solidarity in these moments. Now he’s a role model for that and it’s really great. It will not distract him from his football stuff.

Rashford marks all the boxes for being a success at Liverpool and if you stop in the contract talks for Mohamed Salah, who could leave in the summer, it makes perfect sense that he would be seen as a suitable replacement.

That’s a shiny bumper block for which Rashford plays. United may be open to selling him, but not to Liverpool. It’s a long shot – at best – and that’s before you even consider the player’s education factor. Rashford is United through and through. He was born a United fan, he grew up a United fan and he rose through the ranks of the academy to the first team. He Blutt United.

Rashford might be willing to explore his options away from Old Trafford, but his loyalty to the club would prevent the possibility of Liverpool being a potential landing site. From a Liverpool point of view, it’s a shame because Klopp would welcome him with open arms despite his rival confidence in Merseyside.
