Packers trade Davante Adams to Raiders; WR signed 5-year, $ 141.25M deal

Davante Adams said he would not play under the Green Bay Packers franchise tag, and that seems to be the case.

The Las Vegas Raiders receive the Adams from the Packers in exchange for their 2022 first- and second-round picks, and report to the superstar receiver a new five-year, $ 141.25 million contract, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport and NFL Network Tom Pelissero. Adams will make an average of $ 28.25 million a year and will be the new highest paid wide receiver in NFL history, Rapoport added.

The picks shipped to Green Bay are number 22 and number 53 overall in the April 2022 NFL draft.

It’s a deal that has been quietly going on for days to finalize with the teams and the extension of the contract for Adams is being worked out. It is expected to be ready, with no later setbacks, per Rapoport.

Adams, 29, has long been part of a glorious tandem with two-time AP NFL Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers, who recently signed with the Packers. Rodgers was aware during his contract negotiations that Adams would “never play for the Packers again” because “the situation was too far gone,” Rapoport reported.

Adams’ frustrations over contract negotiations, though he kept them largely quiet, date back to last summer, Pelissero notes.

While Adams left a sensational tenure with the Packers and Rodgers, he reunited with his college quarterback Derek Carr as the two played together at Fresno State. Adams recently “bought a house right next to his new QB,” Rapoport notes.

In her two seasons as a Bulldogs, Adams led the Football Bowl division in receptions, getting yards and touchdowns while Carr was at the top of FBS and passing yards and touchdowns, per NFL research.

Now Carr, who is looking for a legitimate number 1 receiver, has Adams, Tight End Darrell Waller and receiver Hunter Renfrow available. The Adams deal could also lead to more luck for Carr. Rapoport reported that the next step for the Raiders would be to work out an extension for the quarterback, when Adams came to Vegas, knowing that Carr would be there for a long time.
