Alan Smith says an Arsenal player has now lost his speed

Alan Smith spoke to Stadium Astro this week about Arsenal star Alexandre Lacazette and the club’s situation.

The Gunners left Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang last month for nothing. The Gabonese star has fallen out with Mikel Arteta and as Mesut Özil and Matteo Guendouzi have learned in the past, there is no going back from this situation.

Arsenal only have Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah on top right now. It could be argued that they will be doing a job for Mikel Arteta until the end of the season, but both players will be out of contract this summer.

Lacazette’s recent performances have led people to urge Arsenal to give him a new deal. However, Alan Smith made a disastrous appearance.

Alan Schmitz: Arsenal Star Alexandre Lacazette is much slower than before

He said: “Players who can score 15-20 goals these days will cost around £ 80 million. Is Arsenal able to get those players if the Champions League teams are even after them?

“They tried to get Vlahovic, the son of Fiorentina, who went to Juventus, but it did not work out. I hope they can get one. Maybe they need two central forwards in the summer.

“Lacazette, I do not know what they’re doing with him. Do he want to sign again, a shorter contract? It looks like Nketiah when out.

“Lacazette was a very good servant, but you know, his legs do not move as fast as they once did. He was never quick, but obviously left with Aubameyang, which is an area where Arsenal are short.

TBR Vue:

Lacazette has never been a fast forward and considering he is now 30, he will not be going any faster in the coming months and years.

However, the Frenchman is absolutely adamant what he does. The way he falls deep and plays the links is exceptional and there are very few players in the country who work as hard as he does for the team.

It will be interesting to see what Arsenal do this summer with Lacazette.

Keeping him is definitely not a bad idea, but he will only be a short-term option and the Gunners will have to sign a prolific goal scorer regardless of what happens to the former Lyon man.
