Bochum and Borussia Mönchengladbach aborted after Linnemann hit plastic beer mug on the head | Football News

The Bundesliga match between Bochum and Borussia Mönchengladbach has been postponed after a lineman was hit on the back of the head by a plastic beer mug.

Gladbach led 2-0 through goals from the second half by Alassane Plea and Breel Embolo, with 19 minutes left, Linnemann Christian Gittelman was hit from behind by the Beer Cup.

After a few minutes, the stadium announcer said that the match was postponed due to an object being thrown from the crowd.

The referee had no doubts and he gave a penalty in favor of Benjamin Cortus.

With 15 minutes played, the Gladbach coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around.

The game was officially discontinued about 15 minutes after the incident happened with fans being asked to leave the pitch.

“We can only formally apologize to Lineman Christian Gittelmann,” Bochum tweeted in her official Twitter post.

“A highly embarrassing and bitter evening for us. An extremely stupid act by an idiotic fan.”
