Dolly Parton, the much-loved country singer and icon, will remain a nominee for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, despite her request to be removed from consideration.
This Thursday, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame shared a statement on Twitter, in response to Parton, 76, asking to eliminate her name from the race.

“All of us in the music community have seen Dolly Parton’s thoughtful note expressing her feeling that she did not deserve the right to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. In addition to her incredible talent as an artist, her “Another reason why Dolly is a beloved icon of millions of fans around the world,” wrote the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
“Since its inception, Rock & Roll has deep roots in Rhythm & Blues and Country Music,” reads the statement. “It’s not defined by a genre, rather a sound that moves youth culture. Dolly Parton’s music has influenced a generation of young fans and a myriad of artists who have followed suit.
“Her nomination for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame followed the same process as all other artists considered.”

Rock Hall claims Parton’s nomination, along with 16 other artists running this year, will be sent to 1,200 general ballot papers, “the majority of which are artists themselves.”
“We are impressed by Dolly’s ingenious talent and pioneering spirit and are proud to have nominated her for the induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame,” the statement concluded.

Earlier this week, the party posted its own statement on social media, asking for its name to be withdrawn.

“Dolly hey! “Although I am extremely caring and grateful to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I do not feel I deserve the right,” Parton wrote.

“I really do not want the votes to be split because of me, so I have to pay respectfully.”
Parton also wrote that she hopes Rock Hall understands it, and that the nomination inspired her to “hopefully create a great Rock ‘n’ Roll album sometime in the future.”
This is Parton’s first nomination for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
She has been nominated alongside other artists including Beck, Devo, Kate Bush, Eminem, Rage Against the Machine and Carly Simon.
