LONDON – Gunnar Nelson is back from a two and a half year dismissal at UFC Fight Night 204 and had his way with Takashi Sato.
After various circumstances, he kept out of the cage for the longest stretch of his career, Nelson (18-5-1 MMA, 9-5 UFC) came back and used his superior grappling to eliminate Sato (16-5 MMA). , 2-3) UFC) and secured a unanimous decision victory with three 30-26 scores.

After feeling on their feet for the first few minutes, Nelson and Sato finally engaged in a gruesome exchange and within moments Nelson had Sato’s back. He landed blow from the back and methodically worked on a choke. He could not get it, however, and Sato survived the round.
It was more of the same round 2. Nelson was happy to stay with Sato until he decided otherwise and secured the takedown. Nelson went on his way back and worked almost the entire round for Choke, but was unable to do so.
The action started where it left off in the last round. Nelson got Sato on will the takedown, moved to the back and cut off the attempt to end the fight by submission. He could not do it anymore, however, and crossed to the final bell to get the victory on the scorecard.
“I wanted to do things differently on the field and be a little more patient,” Nelson said in his post-fight interview with Michael Bisping. “It feels great (to be back). It’s awesome. (I’m) very happy to be here.
