It’s the end of the world: Google Maps down for many users

Call it a first-world problem, but Google Maps did not work for many users Friday, March 18, causing confusion and navigation headaches.

The people who tried to use the service saw empty spaces where a map should load if they tried to use Google Maps.

“We can confirm that the technical problem of yesteryear is now fixed,” a rep told Google Daily Hive on Friday afternoon, March 18th.

“All affected Google Maps and Google Maps platform services are now back up and running worldwide,” they said.

On social media, Wayfinder expressed their concerns about the failure.

We are so dependent on technology.

Google Maps is down and I had to use the GPS of my truck to get directions to a place I was at least 20 times before.

DownDetector has reported a major spike in people reporting issues with Google services at around 9am PST.
