Lance Stroll and Yuki Tsunoda were both punished for hindering rivals in FP2.
Tsunoda was thought to have hindered Charles Leclerc, who was on a fast lap with new tires on lap 8, causing him to give up his shot.
Tsunoda said he was pushing for a cut for a long, high fuel run, but stewards believe a driver on a cut should always be aware that faster cars are coming and although this did not create a dangerous situation, they found that this was a violation of Article 37.5 of the Sports Regulations.
After Tsunoda and Lance Stroll took down the cracked flag at the end of the session, the Canadian turned into Round 8, while Tsunoda quickly got inside, unnecessarily hindering AlphaTauri and causing a bit of contact.
Stroll said he was slowly on his way to prepare for a practice start and looked in his mirrors, but the closing speed of the cars behind him was much faster meaning he did not see the Tsunoda when he turned 8.
The stewards acknowledged this, noting that his team did not give him a radio warning to enter cars, believing that the driver had a responsibility to keep the awareness of the cars around them and that this was also on the lap after cracked flag applies.
The stewards therefore considered it a violation of Article 37.5 of the Sports Regulations.
In both cases, the drivers were reprimanded.
