Top Boy Season four spoilers follow.
After a rather long break, Top Boy came back with a bang, which of course translated into betrayal, revenge, guns and a whole lot of deadly bloodshed.
Gangster life seems to be taking its toll on Dushane. Chest-tightening pain seems to be brought on by moments of stress and anxiety. Then there’s girlfriend Shelly (Little Simz) whose dark past leads her to be blackmailed into helping bury her ex-boyfriend’s murder victim. Fortunately, a quick exhumation and a trip to the dump relieves their headaches better than any aspirin could.
Unfortunately, the others do not climb so easily. There is a price to pay and the commission is to be paid. There is so much to choose from so let’s dive in!
Top Boy Season 4 End explained
Chris Harris / Netflix
When we last saw our drug lords from East London, Jamie (Micheal Ward) was framed to possess a firearm and stood 10-15 years behind bars. A rather severe blow to the wrist for the gangster whose main priority is the upbringing of his younger brothers.
Dushane (Ashley Walters), who was of course behind the set-up, holds the evidence of Jamie’s innocence (security footage of younger Ats entering Jamie’s home with a backpack containing the incriminating firearm). Jamie has a choice: freedom in exchange for his fealty in Dushane, or a long stint.
Of course, he chooses freedom, but Jamie’s loyalty is not so easy to win, buy or negotiate (make your choice). Like Den Dushane, this young up-and-comer is not quite where he thinks he is.
With Jamie matter put to bed as far as he is concerned, Dushane goes on to more urgent matters. For years on the streets, he pondered over the legitimate life, but to retire from the streets, he had to keep most of his capital.
He gets the tip that investing in the Summerhouse Estates redevelopment is the ideal way to scrub all the dirty money back clean. Easy? Not exactly. This movement puts him in the head with the residents, including his mother, who are held back with little hope.
To add to his headaches, his contact overseas, Emilio, fulfills the wish of his dying wife by leaving the drug game behind. Great for the family, not so great for Dushane, who now has to make do with lawyer Juan El Bueno. The same Juan who has a bad habit of interrupting his drug transfer to Morocco.

So who sends him to lubricate palms and move drugs? Good longtime friend Sully (Kane Robinson). Sully makes it clear “You may be El Chapo in your head, but you are not for me”, in other words, he has finished taking orders from Dushane.
In fact, the blue statement of the letters ‘fa’ results in ‘favors’ in Fisticuffs between the two, leaving Jamie ready to settle a deal.
If only things were that simple.
It seems like the drug’s Mo ‘problems because as Dushane tries to expand his business, associate Lizzie (Lisa Dawson) slips back on the scene to convince Jamie to betray Dushane to make a deal that benefits them both.
Still alone along the way as Dushane takes over, Lizzie wants what she owes and sees Jamie as the key.
Dushane’s problems are not there. Police are also on a mission to investigate his dirty business and have arrested Rueben (Theo Ogundipe). Her dangers of a long prison sentence almost convince him to speak up, but Dushane reminds him of the cost to his family to taste and he quickly closes it. Let’s see if he feels that way next season.
Sully, on the other hand, is desperate to live that quiet life. literally. He lives as a recluse on a boat on a canal. Be no less gangster than that. However, he is dragged back into street life with kicks and screams when Niess Pebbles (Erin Kellyman from Falcon and the Winter Soldier) asks for his help.
Netflix
It turns out that ‘eedyot’ Pebbles decided to keep the drugs she smuggled to a local gang, but now they have ended up in the hands of her ex-boyfriend, who is not too keen on returning them.
The band is now making threats, so it’s the Sully for the mood, reluctant rescue. He does light work to get Pebble’s ex’s drugs back, but trying to get them back is not so smooth.
His attempts at peaceful trade – his medicines to ensure Pebble’s safety – are in vain. Threats are thrown at a gym and Sully hits a band member in the head with a weighted plate while the rest say to consider his offer before things go awry.
Good. Things get really bad when they catch Sully. Let’s just say that hitting with a plate in comparison looks pretty nice.
There are, however, some good ones to be found – Sully’s naked situation brings about a reconciliation between him and Dushane, after Dushane enters, with a gun, to save Sully.

Enthusiastic observers recall Jaq’s sister Lauryn (Saffron Hocking) from last season. Her “crime” (revealing the secrets of Dushane and Sully to her gangster friend and her enemy Leyton) has not been forgiven or forgotten. To be fair, Leyton tried to kill Sully at a funeral so that it was semi-understandable.
Living in exile was meant to be her punishment, but it seems that was only the beginning. Now pregnant, Lauryn finds herself trying to escape her manipulative, controlling partner Curtis (Howard Charles) and his sinful sister Vee (Ava Brennan).
Jaq’s call to Dushane to get her on deaf ears. Lauryn is too desperate to wait for the green light and makes her hard pregnant escape. Curtis finally finds her and after giving Jaq’s “I’m disappointed with you” speech, Dushane agrees to help with the understanding that he will not keep it from Sully.
As it turns out, Lauryn is willing to get her hands well … bloody. In a desperate attempt to stop her psychic friend from harming Jaq (and probably to prove that she can clean her own mess), Lauryn stabs him. Repeat. To death.

Meanwhile, Sully recognizes something with Jamie’s deal in Morocco and flies there to lay the groundwork. It soon becomes apparent that Sully is not too keen on Jamie’s arrangements and orchestrates Juan’s murder.
During his reunion with Juan, Sully gets the hang of Jamie trying to make a deal for himself. Jamie now has to prove his loyalty to Dushane, but his fate has now ended with Ats (Keiyon Cook).
And what about Ats? We could not forget him, could we? Best friend of Jamie’s younger brother Stef (Araloyin Oshunremi), became traitor. Ats’ body swirls in the dirt and both Dushane and a forgiving Jamie search for answers.
Dushane sends out the order that they find the perpetrator. The street-wide man-hunt leads them to Jamie’s best friend kit (Kadeem Ramsay). Feeling that the Ats had grown a little too big for his boots, Kit ordered the Badman Dexter to pick him up and put him in his place. Things got out of hand though and the ats was killed.
When the truth is discovered, Dushane orders the killing of Jamie Kits to prove his loyalty or they are both killed.
It is not an easy decision to meet Jamie, but when his brothers refuse to go on the run with him, he feels he has no choice. Staying means killing Kit, but guaranteeing his and his brother his safety. The kit bites the big one and Jamie is in the safe house – or so he thinks.

Everything seems to fall into place. The tension that broke out between Dushane and his mother is stopped when she becomes ill. He cared for her and in her death moved to initiate a change in the Summerhouse Deal to ensure that all existing residents were offered a home after the redevelopment.
Jaq and Lauryn are reunited and Jamie finds a way to fix his crazy relationship with his brothers – but in reality Top Boy Style there is always a twist.
Throughout this season, Sully has made it clear to anyone who will listen that Dushane is not speaking for him. Well, he punctuates that feeling with Jamie’s murder despite Dushane’s advice to let things go.
This sets up season five in a big way.
Sully’s brutal and unexpected murder of Jamie will possibly draw on the already strict friendship between Sully and Dushane. Dushane saw Jamie as his retirement plan, his way off the streets, but now Sully has literally put a bullet on those plans and Dushane will not let things go.
Dushane is not Sully’s only concern. Jamie’s younger brother Stef witnessed that he shot Jamie not once, not twice but three times in the head for good measure. He may only be younger, but Ats has already proven that young people know the ways of the roads.
Speaking of revenge, Curtis’ crazy sister Vee has been advised to stop killing her brother, but her not so sunny disposition suggests she will be back for blood …
