(CNN)Four teenagers were shot dead and one killed early Sunday morning after a fight broke out in a parking lot outside a Texas sweet sixteen party.
Police responded to a Houston production studio around 12 a.m. after several people became involved in an argument that escalated to gunfire in the group, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez tweeted.
According to CNN affiliate KHOU, between 75 and 100 people were involved in the fighting in the parking lot when the shooting began. “A large number of spent shell casings were discovered in several areas of the parking lot,” the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Sunday.
A 17-year-old man was pronounced dead at a local hospital, according to Gonzalez.
Two other 17-year-olds were taken to the hospital, including one who was flown to Texas Children’s Hospital for life, according to the sheriff’s office. The other was treated and released, then taken into custody on an unrelated warrant, the sheriff’s office said.
A 14-year-old girl was also being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital, the sheriff’s office said. According to Gonzalez, no suspects have been identified in the shooting and the cause of the altercation that preceded the shooting is unknown.
