Marcello Quintanilha brings the Gold Fauve for “Listen, Jolie Marcia”

The BD Festival Grand Prix was presented on Wednesday to Quebecer Julie Doucet.

A Brazilian comic strip, Listen, Jolie Márcia by Marcello Quintanilha, was awarded on Saturday the prize of the best album of the year, the Fauve d’or, at the Festival d’Angoulême.

Published in September in the Editions Çà et Là, this graphic novel tells the dilemmas of a mother living in a fable near Rio, of which the girl is buried in the violence of the gangs.

Son of a professional footballer, Marcello Quintanilha, born in 1971, left Brazil 20 years ago for Barcelona, Spain. He had already won the 2016 Polar Prize in Angoulême for Tungstène.

The Éco-Fauve Raja Prize, a subject of controversy following the resignation of a first jury who protested against the sponsorship of an industrial packaging, was awarded to Anne-Marie Saint-Cerny and Christian Quesnel for Magnificent, a train in the night (Écosociété éditions), a report of an industrial disaster in Quebec in 2013.

Frequency decline despite a strong interest in the BD

The Angoulême Festival closes its doors on Sunday evenings, after having received this year less authors due to its report on an unauthorized date.

The gray and happy weather of the first two days, Thursday and Friday, as well as the current news between war in Ukraine and presidential campaign, did not further increase the frequency figures.

The BD, however, has never been well-received in France. In 2021 (the year where an Asterix album was released), according to the Xerfi cabinet, its growth reached 34%. According to GfK, it represents 24% of the book market, just behind the general literature (25%).

The most prestigious award, the Grand Prix, was given on Wednesday to Julie Doucet, Canadian first and fourth woman to inscribe her name on these palm trees that crown the ensemble of a work.
