The Rams traded Robert Woods and the Tennessee Titans, taking advantage of their surplus on the wide receiver position but losing an LA product that was popular with teammates and fans.
The Rams could not confirm that the trade took place until it was official, which it was not yet a Saturday afternoon.
According to ESPN, unlike Woods, the Rams will get the sixth round of the Titans in 2023 draft.
The Rams will also get the benefit of dumping Woods’ contract, which will save them $ 7.1 million against the NFL salary cap in 2022, according to sportspayroll tracker Spotrac.com.
It’s the end of a five-year stint with the Rams for Woods, which airs on April 10th.
A star at Serra High (Gardena) in USC, Woods began his NFL career with the Bills, and signed with the Rams as a free agent in 2017 to form a prolific receiving duo with the Cooper Cup.
But Woods tore an ACL in practice in November and missed the rest of the Rams Super Bowl winning season. The Rams excel with mid-season acquisition Odell Beckham Jr. in the role of Woods. And this week, they signed ex-Bears receiver Allen Robinson as a free agent.
Other teams immediately began to question Woods’ availability.
The 6-foot, 195-pound was a respected captain in the wardrobe and consistently on the field, picking up 86, 90 and 90 fingers in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
His 367 catches are eighth in Rams franchise history, his 4,626 yards 10 and his 23 touchdowns 14.
Woods signed with the Rams until 2025 under a four-year, $ 65 million contract extension agreed before the 2020 season.
