UNICEF Ukraine Humanitarian Situation Report No.4 (Reporting Period: 10 – 16 March 2022) – Ukraine

Highlights

  • Internal displacement and damage to the base and critical infrastructure (hospitals, water systems and schools) have risen dramatically in the last week. Since March 16, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has killed 780 civilians (including 58 children) and injured 1,252 civilians (including 68 children).

  • Humanitarian conditions, including access to food, water and medicine, are deteriorating for the population of Mariupol. Conditions for safe, fast and unhindered humanitarian access remain significantly limited.

  • Life-saving equipment and first aid kits were distributed to 14 hospitals in Lviv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Mykolaiv and Zhytomyr to meet the needs of 4,000 pregnant women and newborns and 200,000 people.

  • 34 trucks of supplies including essential medicines and medical equipment, hygiene and dignity kits, early childhood development (ECD) kits, teen kits and winter clothes for children have arrived in Lviv and been released to partners for further distribution. Since February 24, UNICEF has ordered nearly 41.3 million worth of supplies to meet the needs of over 6.2 million people, including 1.1 million children in Ukraine.

  • As of March 14, online education has reopened in 13 regions.

  • UNICEF established and equipped psychosocial support areas with teaching materials for art, play, reading and emotional support at 29 metro stations in Kharkiv, where children and families have been living for the past two weeks.

  • All clusters were activated, with UNICEF leading the WASH and Nutrition Cluster, the Child Protection Subcluster and co-leading the Education Cluster. UNICEF is an active member of the Health and Logistics Cluster and the Cash Working Group (CWG).

  • Since March 16, UNICEF has received $ 67.8 million (including $ 1.2 million carried over from 2021) of $ 276 million requested for Pillar 1 (in Ukraine) by UNICEF appeal. UNICEF recognizes and appreciates the generous contributions of all public and private sector donors to support the response in Ukraine.
