Five thoughts on the Claude Giroux trade for the Panthers and Flyers

The Florida Panthers and Philadelphia Flyers made a big deal on Saturday as the Flyers sent Claude Giroux, German Rubtsov, and a fifth-round pick in 2024 to the Panthers in exchange for Owen Tippett, a first -Round election (either in 2024 or 2025), and a third round election in 2023.

Claude Giroux leaves the Philadelphia Flyers and goes to the Florida Panthers for a playoff.

The Florida Panthers have long been no real competitors. This is their year where they are all in for a championship, and the move they made yesterday before the deadline supports that claim.

Despite how bad the Flyers were, former captain Claude Giroux has now had a great season. He recorded 42 points and 57 games, and he was definitely the highlight of the season for the struggling team.

Let’s come to five thoughts after the trade.

1. A fresh start

Claude Giroux recently played in his 1000th game, and now he’s on his way to Florida to play with the Panthers. This is a fresh start for a player who has not been in the Stanley Cup final with the Flyers since 2010.

Giroux was one of the best players of his generation, and yet he had very little success in showing that. Now he gets his chance to run a cup while still having a lot of skills and abilities in play.

Giroux comes with probably the best team he has ever played on, and that in itself is an exciting thing to see.
