How (and where) to watch the 2022 Oscar nominee online

NEW YORK (AP) – Want to see Top Oscar nominees before 94. There are many ways to do that, and a trip to the theater is not absolutely necessary. Here’s the way to find the top nominees online, though there are plenty of ways to buy, rent and stream digitally:

THE POWER OF THE DOG
Twelve nominations. Netflix.

The lead nominee received node for Kirsten Dunst, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jesse Plemons and Kodi Smit-McPhee. It also received a Best Picture nomination and a Best Director nominee for Jane Campion. Cumberbatch is a rough-hewn Montana rancher with a menacing arrogance and a gothic story that was brought to life on the Western Plain.

DUNE
Ten nominations. HBO Max.

It’s back on HBO Max, and in the iTunes Store and on Amazon Prime Video for a price. The redundant desert sci-fi saga based on Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel got buttons that contained the best picture and cinematography. They are Timothy Chalamet and Zendaya. Directed by Denis Villeneuve.

BELFAST
Seven nominations. Digital location.

Based on the childhood of Kenneth Branagh, the film nominated for Best Picture, a Directing Button for Branagh, Best Supporting Actress for Judi Dench and Support for Her Screen Man, Ciarán Hinds, among others. Absent was a nominee Jamie Dornan who struggled as a Belfast father to keep his family safe when the problems began in 1969. It is available at a price on Amazon Prime, Apple TV +, YouTube, Redbox, Vudu and more.

WEST SIDE STORY
Seven nominations. HBO Max and Disney +.

Steven Spielberg’s new performance of the classic from 1961 received nominations for best picture, and the director for him. Ariana DeBose was nominated for her Anita. Spielberg, Tony Kushner, and Steven Sondheim dug deep to rethink the iconic Romeo and Juliet story that took the Sharks and the Jets front and center in New York City.

NO RICHARD
Six nominations. Digital location.

Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, the story of Richard Williams – father, coach and driving force behind tennis great Venus and Serena Williams – starring Will Smith. It has nominated for Smith, Aunjanue Ellis, best picture and original song for Be Alive by DIXSON and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, among others. It’s available on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play, YouTube and more.

DO NOT OPEN
Four nominations. Netflix.

Adam McKay’s apocalyptic comedy received nominations for Best Picture, Original Score and Original Screenplay. The satire on climate change, given to stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, is sent to Earth six months before a massive comet destroys the planet.

DRIVE MY CAR
Four nominations. HBO Max.

By Japanese director Ryusuke Hamaguchi, the three-hour drama deserved, among other things, angles for best picture and for best director. It is based on a Haruki Murakami short story and follows an actor played by Hidetoshi Nishijima. He is looking for a driver and meets up with a taciturn 20 year old girl, played by Toko Miura. A touching friendship develops against a backdrop of loss and grief.

NIGHTMARE ALLEY
Four nominations. HBO Max and Hulu.

The Guillermo del Toro remake of the 1947 neo-noir classic received nominations for Best Picture and Cinematography. The cast is star-studded, led by Bradley Cooper and Rooney Mara. It’s the story of the short rise of a handsome hustler, from low level Carney to high paid showman.

SINN DE RICARDOS
Three nominations. Amazon Prime Video.

The behind-the-scenes look at the work and marriage of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz received nominations for Javier Bardem as Desi, Nicole Kidman as Lucy and JK Simmons in a supporting role. Aaron Sorkin created a gracious and sharp dramatization of a particularly demanding week during the television classic I Love Lucy.

CODA
Three nominations. Apple TV +.

Apple received its first Best-Picture nomination with this drama, which also made history as supporting actor nominee Troy Kotsur was only the second Deaf actor ever nominated.

(His CODA co-star Marlee Matlin was the first.) The film follows the Rossi family from Gloucester, Massachusetts. Ruby, a high school senior, is the only hearing member in her family and often her only connection to the hearing world.

ENCANTO
Three nominations, Disney +.

There’s something about this Disney animated feature. It’s rather something to the music that has kicked a lot. The soundtrack became the first from a movie since 2019 to reach number 1 on the Billboard charts. His favorite song, We Do Not Talk About Bruno, became the highest charting song from a Disney animated film in more than 26 years. Music Magic was created by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The story shows a charming family on Mount Weiler Encanto. Miranda received a nomination for original song for Dos Oruguitas, as opposed to the tune that made all the boom.

FLYING
Three nominations. Hulu.

With the exception of live-action archive material, this grand jury prize winner at Sundance is very animated. It’s the story of Amin, a pseudonym for a refugee boy, who the filmmaker Jonas Poher Rasmussen freed himself in his sleepy Danish town when he himself was 15 years old. Amin did not talk about his past in Afghanistan or his family when they were children. It took Amin some 20 years to open up to his friend. The nominations include both the best animated feature film and the best documentary.

LICORICE PIZZA
Three nominations. Digital location.

The 1970 set set in director Paul Thomas Anderson’s Sunny Southern California is available for purchase on Amazon Prime Video, the iTunes Store, Google Play and Vudu.

Anderson received a directorial award and the film was nominated for Best Picture. It’s a charming loose love letter to the San Fernando Valley of Anderson’s youth.

THE LOST DAUGHTER
Three nominations. Netflix.

Starring Olivia Colman, Jessie Buckley and Dakota Johnson, their nominations include hints for Colman and Buckley.

The adaptation of an Elena Ferrante novel of the same name is a psychological drama that has Colman and Buckley in the same role as young and old versions of the sad and frustrated translator Leda Caruso, who is on holiday in Greece.

NO time to die
Three nominations. Digital location.

The 25th film in the James Bond universe, Daniel Craig, after leaving active service, enjoys the good life in Jamaica, only to be sucked back by his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA. Available for a price on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV +, Google Play, YouTube and more. Among his nominations is one for the title song, No Time To Die, featuring music and lyrics by Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell.

THE MACBETH TRAGEDY
Three nominations. Apple TV +.

Joel Coen reigned, with Denzel Washington in the lead role as a gray-haired Macbeth, who knows in his painful bones that the prophecy of the witches gave him his last chance at what he wants, King of Scotland. Washington’s tour with Shakespeare in this black and white version earned him a lead actor Oscar Nod. Frances McDormand Co-Stars.

CRUELLA
Two nominations. Disney +.

The story of this dog hater turned Emma Stone into an evil Cruella. The story goes back to how she was simply known as Estella, played as five years old by Billie Gadsdon. Nominations include one for makeup and hairdresser, two of the other stars.

THE EYES OF TAMMY FAYE
Two nominations. HBO Max.

The rise-and-fall story of televangelist power couple Tammy Faye and Jim Bakker secured Jessica Chastain her third Oscar nomination. The film also got an angle on makeup and hair styling – notable for the brash Tammy. The Andrew Garfield plays the Hills.

PARALLEL MOTHER
Two nominations. Digital location.

Directed by Pedro Almodóvar and with Penélope Cruz, the Spanish-language drama follows two women who were born the same day in the same hospital. It is both personal and political.

Oscar nominations include the fourth for Cruz, who already has an Oscar.

tick, tick … BOMM!
Two nominations. Netflix.

Andrew Garfield received an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Jonathan Larson, who founded the theater world as the creator of Rent. The adaptation of an autobiographical musical by Larson, who died suddenly and young in 1996, was Lin-Manuel Miranda’s feature directorial debut and also deserved a nod to film editing.

SPENCER
Best Actress nominated. Hulu.

Kristen Stewart’s volatile princess Diana has earned her a living after snubbing from the British Academy and the Screen Actors Guild. Director Pablo Larraín takes a tragically surreal approach in this biopic. Even though the reviews have been mixed, some critics consider it an evocative and artificial look at one of the most famous women who ever lived.

SUMMER OF SOUL (… Or, if the Revolution could not be televised)
Best Documentary Nominated. Hulu.

Thanks to Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, the Harlem Cultural Festival 1969 took its place. At Mount Morris Park (now Marcus Garvey Park), the film includes appearances at the New York Festival by Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Sly & the Family Stone, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Mahalia Jackson, BB King, The 5th Dimension and more.

THE MITCHELLS VS. The machines
Animated feature nominated. Netflix.

The unusual Mitchell family has to stop an uprising of the world’s electronic devices while on a road trip to drop off their daughter Katie (voted by Abbi Jacobson) for her first year of film school. Thank God for two friendly robots. The best animated feature is nominated by Mike Rianda, who made Gravity Falls.

LUCA
Best animated feature nominated. Disney +.

The Disney and Pixar Coming-of-Age story is about a boy and his summer on the Italian Riviera. Luca is voted by Jacob Tremblay. He befriends another boy, Alberto, voiced by Jack Dylan Grazer. There is a lot of sea fun, but the two share a threatened secret. Directed by Enrico Casarosa.

RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON
Best animated feature nominated. Disney +.

Take a trip to Kumandra, where an evil force destroyed the harmony between humans and dragons 500 years ago. The dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now the beast is back and the warrior Raya goes in search of a legendary last dragon to restore order.
