The logo takes inspiration from the laurel wreath; a symbol of excellence and victory, of protection and growth. It consists of ribbons and colors of the competing nations – Italian Tricolore and Argentina Albiceleste – together in unity around the striking trophy.
Is there a trophy for the Finalissima winner?
The CONMEBOL – UEFA Cup of Champions is the new name of the trophy that was awarded for this match in 1985 and 1993. It shows two figures on either side representing the continents, Europe and South America, with the Finalissima icon prominently positioned where their hands meet.
The ties are symbolic of the strong links between CONMEBOL and UEFA, and of their commitment to the development of football across their geographical zones.
Twenty-nine years after the last edition, the relaunch of this game plan is the result of a long-standing partnership between UEFA and CONMEBOL, and will serve as a catalyst for the global development of football – uniting countries, continents and cultures.
Finalissima: Who will be the champion of the champions?
The brand also highlights the importance of a match between the best teams from the two continents that each World Cup has delivered. Among the ribbons that wrap around the deep blue backdrop are some in platinum and gold, the most precious metals in the world.
Come, of course, on June 1st full time, when Italy and Argentina meet in the finalissima at Wembley Stadium in London, only the bands of a team will decorate the trophy. Will Argentina follow in the footsteps of Diego Maradona’s team that beat Denmark in the last edition of this match in 1993? Or could Italy imitate France’s first success over Uruguay in 1985?
