Leyton Orient midfielder Ethan Coleman wants to keep their momentum under new head coach Richie Wellens tonight at Harrogate Town.
O’s recorded their first victory since December 7 when they beat Rochdale 3-1 at Breyer Group Stadium on Saturday, thanks to goals from Paul Smyth, Ruel Sotiriou and Harry Smith.
And that has made it three games unbeaten under Wells and five without a defeat since the departure of former boss Kenny Jackett.
They are now in 18th place and nine points above the relegation zone in League Two, while Harrogate sits four points above them in 16th place after playing one more game.
And Coleman said: “The team did really well. We did not do as well as we wanted to in the previous games under the new gaffer, but getting the result was massively important for all of us involved.
“We have not had a victory since I was here. It’s been a while. Finally we’re off the field and we can put on the music.
“Everyone is happy and excited that we have progressed and we are now winning games again and it is important for us to do that.
“Now we can really push on and continue this form. We have shown the last five players character, unbeaten.
“We came back in those games, shot last minute. That shows a massive character.
“We talked about it as a team and we have to show that once again over the rest of the season.”
Coleman, 22, joined the club on a two-and-a-half year contract from National League side King’s Lynn Town for an undisclosed amount in January and made 10 appearances, compensating for the injury time in a 2-year deal -2 draw shot. Colchester under Interim Manager Matt Harrold.
And he’s pleased with how his game is going in East London, adding: “The pace is higher, fitness, it’s hard to get used to, but it’s a situation where I feel like I have and will do and keep going.
“Gaffer has played at a high level and is good with the young boys so far, teach me and the hec (Kyprianou) who played there. He is good with us and we have to learn from him.
“He has valuable experience and we want to learn as players, we do not just want to play games. Especially as young players it is important and helpful.
“I feel like this is my game. I enjoy the ball as much as I can pass, enjoy getting on it. And I feel like we can do that as a team, we have good technical players on the team who can produce a style of the game like Gaffer wants and I feel like we can do that well.
Another young player that has caught the eye in recent weeks is 21-year-old academy graduate Ruel Sotiriou, who has scored four goals in the last five games.
Coleman praised his team-mate, hoping the O’s could hold the feel-good factor tonight, adding: “He was brilliant for us, he scored good goals. It’s all about goals, he did well and is in shape and we have to keep him on it.
“When you know he’s through and has a chance, you believe he’s going to score and it’s hugely important for a team to have that.
“We want to do exactly the same thing we did this weekend. We want the performance to be a little better, we want to move the ball a little better, including our pressure.
“We want to play expansively and we will do well and we want to get those three points.”
