Cars and homes were damaged in the Mississippi, a disaster has been declared in 16 Texas counties and at least one person has died as a severe weather outbreak continues to hit parts of the south.

Cars Crushed at Mississippi State University
Several cars were destroyed by falling trees on the MSU campus in Starkville.
Video posted on social media showed car roofs crushed and break windows.
Debris Litters Community College Campus
Seventy miles southwest of Starkville, Holmes Community College in Goodman, Mississippi, was also hit Tuesday.
A roof has been torn down by a building and photos show more damaged cars and dirt the Campus rotted.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
Residents describe Tornado Hitting House
Jacksboro, Texas, resident Russ Ray went outside to check the sky when storms arrived Monday. In the west it was dark.
“(I) ran back into the house, grabbed the dog, climbed into the bathroom and fell down and within 5 seconds the tornado struck,” Ray told the Weather Channel Tuesday. “Took down the roof, took out the ceiling, pretty much tore down the house.”
The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF-3 tornado has hit the area.
State of emergency in Jackson, Mississippi
Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba declared a local emergency before the storm on Tuesday. The city distributed sandbags until 4pm and residents were advised to be careful and to have emergency supplies on hand.
The city has closed its early childhood development centers and senior centers as a precautionary measure, according to a press release.
The University of Alabama is closing
University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa suspended operations until 5 p.m., Wednesday.
Campus shelters will open when a tornado clock is issued, the university said in a press release.
Disaster declared in Texas
Governor Greg Abbott on Tuesday issued a disaster statement in the following counties: Bastrop, Cass, Cooke, Grayson, Guadalupe, Houston, Jack, Madison, Marion, Montague, Nacogdoches, Panola, Rusk, Upshur, Williamson and Wise.
It is in several of those counties where damage occurred during a tornado outbreak late Monday, including in Jacksboro, northeast of Fort Worth and Jack County, and Sherwood Shores in Grayson County, where a 73-year-old woman was killed.
There were twenty reports of tornadoes Monday to Tuesday in Texas, and one in Oklahoma, according to the NOAA Storm Prediction Center. Tornadoes can be reported several times on their way.

Power Outages Dissemination
Nearly 42,000 homes and businesses will be without electricity in Texas from 3 a.m. CDT, according to PowerOutage.us. About 25,000 power outages are reported in Louisiana and 19,000 in Mississippi.
Damage reported to Mississippi
A reported tornado has caused damage, including falling trees and power lines in the Vicksburg area of Warren County. John Elfer, director of county emergency management, told the Vicksburg Post that at least four tornadoes were reported in the area Tuesday afternoon.
Four houses were damaged, elves said, including three houses with roof damage and a cell phone home hit by a fallen tree.
“There are trees down in the county and we still have the potential for flooding,” a Facebook post from the county said at 1:15 p.m. “Please be extremely careful when traveling on the roads.”
Trees have also been reported in nearby Hinds County, where Jackson is.
School canceled in Louisiana
Several school districts in Louisiana have canceled classes or moved to virtual learning, including West Baton Rouge, St. Louis. James Parish and St. Tammany Parish.
