A former Love Island contestant-turned-doctor meets with students to discuss the impact of social media on mental health.
dr Alex George will visit the University of Leicester as part of his role as British Ambassador for Mental Health.
dr George has campaigned for mental health support since losing his brother to suicide in 2020.
He said he hopes to encourage students to develop “positive habits for mental health”.
dr George said: “It is vital to ensure young people can speak openly about mental health and have access to support early on.
“I am delighted to be working with the University of Leicester to promote positive mental health habits.
“It is great to see the wealth of support and resources available to help Leicester students at every stage of their university life.”
dr George was appointed Youth Mental Health Ambassador to the Government by Prime Minister Boris Johnson in 2021.
He plans to speak with students about the impact of social media on mental health, the importance of early intervention, and the stigma surrounding men’s mental health.
He will also discuss his personal struggles and challenges in medical school with the university’s medical students.
Sarah Cavendish, Head of Wellbeing and Student Support Services at the University, said: “We are delighted to welcome Dr. Welcoming Alex George to the university.
“We focus on early intervention and empowering people to develop positive, healthy habits that promote good mental health and well-being.”
