Police were called to the scene after a “frustrated” Sen. Ted Cruz arrived at the Montana airport this weekend in an argument with airline staff.
Footage posted on Reddit showed Cruz (R-Texas), who was wearing a mask, talking to two United Airlines employees at Bozeman airport on Sunday after he missed the check-in window for his flight.
A law enforcement official had to be called to alleviate the situation, Scott Humphrey, an assistant director at Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport, told the Daily Mail.
“One of our Public Safety Officers (PSOs) was in the ticket lobby and was asked to help with a frustrated passenger at the United ticket counter (which is not uncommon),” Humphrey said.
“The passenger had missed the check-in window for his flight and rebooking options were limited by Bozeman due to the spring break.”
The Reddit user who posted the video claimed that Cruz “agreed” and “did not reassure” the airline’s two employees.
It was not immediately clear what Cruz said to the airline’s staff.
The Reddit user claimed that the senator said something like “Do not you know who I am?” and asked to speak to the manager several times.
After the law enforcement officer came in to help, Cruz was then booked on another flight and left Bozeman later that evening, Humphrey said.
“Our PSO did not realize he was dealing with Senator Cruz until after the fact,” he said.
Cruz’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Meanwhile, several tornadoes in the Cruz hometown of Texas were touched on Monday, damaging dozens of homes and damaging a number of schools, according to local reports.
