MELBOURNE Australia’s Offshore Petroleum Watchdog has paved the way for Shell to restart its prelude to floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) Site off northwestern Australia, following a power outage in December forced a shutdown.
Shell has not given a time frame for when production will resume at 3.6 million tonnes a year.
Power was cut off at the site after steam was detected in an electrical service area.
Following the outbreak, the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority ordered the company to draw up a plan and fix any problems to prove that the installation works safely in the event of a power outage before allowing operations to resume operations.
This order was last updated on “closed” last Friday.
“Shell notes confirmation of NOPSEMA that the direction was closed in 1860, “a Shell spokesman said Monday.
“We continue to work methodically through the steps in the process of preparing for the hydrocarbon restart with safety and stability first and foremost in mind.”
The failure at Prelude was a rising factor LNG Prices in December. Prices have since risen to record highs as Europe cruised to gas to replace Russian exporters hit by sanctions.
