The incident began Tuesday with gunfire at the workplace. Burr Ridge Police responded to reports of a shooting at an office park at 16W475 S. Frontage Road about 3 a.m. and found two victims.
Police said a man was shot on the spot and a female employee was injured. Police said the shooter then fled the scene.
The police have withheld the identity of the man who was killed, pending notification of his family. Information about the other victim’s condition was not immediately available.
Police said they believe the two victims in the shooting know each other.

A massive chase was launched to find the shooter after he fled the scene, and nearby residents and shops were warned to lock themselves inside. Police say the gun was found dead at 5 a.m. in the 7900 block of South Madison Street by suicide, about one and a half miles from the original shooting scene, near Interstate 55 and Route 83.
“We got a 911 call, but we had a perimeter set up. He was in our perimeter,” said Burr Ridge Police Chief John Madden. “When officers closed in on him, he took his own life with the shot. He died.”
Residents were asked to avoid the area near 79th and Madison streets due to the heavy police presence as the investigation continues. Investigators have cracked down on the widespread crime scene, closing sections of a nearby frontage road and nearby parking lots.
Police planned to interview witnesses about what could have triggered the shooting of two colleagues.
