Penguins for goalkeeper Tristan Jarry against Blue Jackets start

The Penguins are scheduled to kick off goalkeeper Tristan Jarry for Tuesday’s home game against the Columbus Blue Jackets at the PPG Paints Arena.

Appearing in 49 games this season, Jarry has a 31-12-6 record, a 2.28 goal against the average, a .922 save percentage and four shutouts.

Jarry has faced the Blue Jackets once this season. During a 5-2 road victory on January 21, Jarry stepped up in relief from backup satellite Casey DeSmith and stopped every 15 shots he faced and 40 minutes of ice time to record the victory.

Notes:

• New striker Rickard Rakell is expected to line up a day after the Penguins bought him over trade from the Anaheim Ducks. In 51 games this season, Rakell has 28 points (16 goals, 12 assists) as well as an average of 18:21 ice time per game.

“He’s a guy who can help us on both sides of the puck,” coach Mike Sullivan said. “Above all, he can play the kind of game we try to play. He brings a lot of speed to his game, he has the ability to finish. He’s a good goal scorer. He has good offensive instincts, but he also has good awareness. away from the puck which is an important aspect of winning. We think he can help us in many ways. Above all, we think he fits really well with the style of play we are trying to play and some of the needs we have. felt that our team was needed to become a better team.

Sullivan has stopped to indicate on which line the squeegee could be dropped, but it is suspected he will line up on the second line next to center Evgeni Malkin.

“We believe he can play with our guys,” Sullivan said. “That was one of the biggest things we talked about that led him to bring in certain skills that we think are complementary.”

• Striker Radim Zohorna was recalled by Wilkes-Barre / Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) on Tuesday morning. In 12 NHL games this season, Zohorna has three points (one goal, two assists) while averaging 11:10 ice time per game.

With under-six forwards Zach Aston-Reese and Dominik Simon sent Anaheim in exchange for Rakell as well as fellow forwards Brock McGinn (suspected right hand or arm) and Jason Zucker (core muscle) to rehabilitate injuries, Zohorna or other young forwards into the mix , like Drew O’Connor, would seem in line to have a prime opportunity to establish a sturdier role with the team in the short-term.

“They have to bring the game that brought them success at this point,” Sullivan said of Zohorna, O’Connor and others’ favorites. “They are part of our organization, they are part of our team for a reason. They bring different things to the table that we think will help us become the team we try to become. The biggest challenge for young players if they try to establish themselves in the NHL is just consistency of game, night and night out, shift and shift and brings out their best game.

• Those who participated in the Penguins’ optional morning skate were Teddy Blueger, Brian Boyle, and Zohorna; Defenders Mark Friedman, Marcus Pettersson and Chad Ruhwedel; and DeSmith and Jarry.

• The Blue Jackets are slated to launch goalkeeper Joonas Korpisalo. In 21 games this season, Korpisalo has a record of 7-10-0, a 4.10 goal against the average and a .878 save percentage.

Follow the penguins all season long.
