PS5 online is reported after the system update today

There have been widespread reports that PlayStation users are currently unable to play games online, according to Wednesday’s firmware updates.

Since the console patches went live, hundreds of social media users have reported that they are not able to play PS4 and PS5 games like Destiny, FIFA and The Elder Scrolls Online.

VGC’s tests so far have suggested that Gran Turismo 7, Wreckfest, Street Fighter V and Grand Theft Auto Online are also currently experiencing issues.

The Down Detector website, which uses user reporting to track the online status of large networks, also shows hundreds of reports that PlayStation, FIFA, Grand Theft Auto Online, Call of Duty and Battlefield are experiencing issues.

Many users have reported that their console does not recognize an active PlayStation Plus subscription. Sony has not yet commented on this issue.

While some users have reported that the PS5 reboot fixes the issues, others have claimed that this does not work. The VGC’s test also showed that restarting the PS5 did not fix the issue.

At the time of writing, PlayStation’s Twitter account, @AskPlayStation has not yet responded to the topic, despite many messages from users.

Players are still able to access the online menus of some games, such as FIFA 22, which implies that the service still works, but when they try to play an online game, something that requires PlayStation Plus happens the Feeler.

The new PS5 and PS4 updates that launched today introduce new voice command feature for UK as well as US players as well as UI improvements.

While not part of the new update, PlayStation has also revealed that variable refresh rate (VRR) support will come to PS5 “in the coming months”.

VRR synchronizes the frame rate of the game you play on your monitor, which, in theory, reduces noticeable frame rate drops and other graphical issues. Only HDMI 2.1 compatible TVs currently support this feature.

It is not clear at this time when the feature will launch.
