Den Hank Jr. is the son of legendary musician Hank Williams, who is considered by far one of the most influential artists in the country music genre.

Senior Williams died in 1953 at the age of 29, but played such a central role in transforming the Western genre that country songs he wrote decades ago are still considered the norm today.

Williams, 72, was recently inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, and is best known for the song All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight, a version of which he played in Monday Night Soccer for more than 20 years.

During an interview on October 3, 2011 on Fox & Friends, Williams mentioned a golf game in which President Barack Obama and Republican House Speaker John Boehner faced off against Vice President Joe Biden and Ohio Gov. John Kasich “one of the greatest political Mistakes ever made. ” ‘

Examining why this innocent 18-hole game bothered him so much, he said, ‘Come on. That would be like Hitler playing golf with Netanyahu … in that form in that country? ‘

He further described the president and vice president as “the enemy” and then compared him to “the Three Stooges”.

When Gretchen Carlson commented: “You used the name of one of the most hated people in the world to describe the President, I think,” Williams replied, “Well, that’s true. But I’m telling you. as it is. ‘

Due to his statements, ESPN dropped his song from the Monday Night Football broadcast for the week and replaced it with the national anthem.

He said his analogy might have been a bit “extreme”, but he still has the utmost respect for the president’s office.

‘Working class hurts people – and it does not seem as if anyone cares. When two sides are high-fiving it on the ninth hole when everyone else is out of work – it makes many of us angry. Something has to change. Politics must change, “he said in a statement at the time.

Days later, ESPN withdrew, saying they had officially decided to “part ways” with Williams and would no longer play his song at the beginning of every Monday night game.

Hank said it would be his own decision to pull his song off the sports network: “After reading hundreds of emails, I made MY decision. By pulling my opening on October 3, you (ESPN) are on the ‘Teeth hit by First Amendment freedom of speech, so Me, My Song, and All My Rowdy Friends are OUT OF HERE. It was a great run.’

Sam was with his father when Hank was inducted into the Nashville Country Music Hall of Fame in November 2021, three months before he revealed he was under a conservatory.

Sam was deeply affected by the death of his sister Katie (right) after she was killed in a car accident in Tennessee in 2020.
