The Nets pulled back Kyrie Irving just in time to potentially lose two more games.
Irving, who is capable of playing street games, will be available when the Nets go to Memphis on Wednesday, but they could be without Seth Curry and Goran Dragić, the team announced Tuesday.
Dragić was listed as doubtful with left knee pain. He played in their win against the Jazz Monday, but was listed as doubtful with the same injury in the game. He played 32 minutes, scoring seven points with seven assists. Curry left his game on Monday in the second quarter after hitting and dying his left ankle and is listed as doubtful.
LaMarcus Aldridge (right hip impingement) is also out. Andre Drummond, who missed the match on Monday with a non-COVID illness, was not listed on the injury report.
Curry’s injury is noteworthy because it’s the same ankle he said has been causing him problems since January. He missed three games due to that early in the month and said on his return that it is an injury he simply has to manage for the rest of the season. Curry played 38 minutes when he returned from injury on March 18, and Steve Nash did more than he wanted him to play, but that he did so out of necessity.
Nash said after the game Monday that the despair was different from the injury that plagued Curry, despite the similar place.
“I think we’re worried,” because it’s the same ankle, Nash said. Talked to him during the break, it does not sound like he thought it was doom and gloom. Hopefully it’s a quick recovery but you never know how these things will react when they wake up overnight or how he feels but it was different like the previous one. Same ankle but different, so I think he feels optimistic that it’s not too bad.
Curry, who joined the team in February as part of the James Harden trade, was an integral part of the supporting cast that kept the Nets flooded despite injuries and resistance. He averages 15.5 points and shoots 47.7% of three and 13 games with the Nets – an essential piece to grab the attention of Kevin Durant, who has been a regular doubles and three-man team, especially in games that Irving can not play.
