UPDATE: This story has been updated to reflect Ingham County canceling the Tornado siren test for Wednesday afternoon.
Tornado sirens no longer sound Wednesday over Ingham County.
The county had planned to test its outdoor warning siren system at 1 a.m., but after an alarm email Wednesday morning, the practice was canceled.
“This test is not being rescheduled, but we will resume our regular schedule from 1pm on the first Saturday of the month in April,” the email said. “Again – tornado sirens are NOT sounding today at 1pm, but we encourage you to use this time to plan where you would be sheltered in the event of a current alarm.”
The test would be part of Michigan’s annual Severe Weather Awareness Week, according to an earlier county alarm email.
According to the previous email, the countywide siren system sounds in three situations:
- “Tornado warning issued by National Weather Service
- Extreme winds (80mph or higher) expected to enter the county or reported by spotters in the county
- A Reliable Tornado Report by Trained Weather Spotters “
