Amazon plans to file objections to Staten Island union election

Amazon plans to raise objections to the union election in Staten Island, New York, which led to the first successful U.S. organizational effort in the company’s history.

The e-commerce giant stated its plans in a legal presentation to the National Labor Relations Board made public on Thursday. Among other things, the company sued Amazon’s labor union. a group of former and current employees which spearheaded the union drive, threatening warehouse workers to vote in favor of the organizational effort. Eric Milner, a lawyer representing the ALU, said the allegations were “patent absurd.”

“Employees have spoken and their voices have been heard,” Milner said in a statement. “Amazon is choosing to ignore it and instead engage in stagnant tactics to avoid the inevitable: come to the bargaining table and negotiate a contract” on behalf of Staten Island warehouse workers.

Staten Island warehouse workers cast 2,654 votes, or about 55 percent, in favor of a union, giving enough support to the fledgling group to secure a victory on Friday. Federal labor officials had said the results of the count would not be verified until they processed any objections, scheduled for April 8, that both parties could file. Amazon asked for a two-week extension, which the labor board has granted. He now has until April 22 to support his claims.
