CNN’s new streaming service, CNN +, closes just one month after launch.
In a note Thursday, CNN’s incoming CEO Chris Licht said the service would close in late April. It premiered on March 29th.
CNN + began when his father was still part of AT&T. It was combined with Discovery earlier this month in a new company, Warner Bros. Discovery, under Discovery CEO David Zaslav, who had his own vision for CNN and its Warner brothers.
AT&T sank $ 120 million in the company last year, according to the Los Angeles Times, and hired a number of media stars such as Chris Wallace of Fox News and Audie Cornish of NPR. Part of the program’s talent and on-air programming will be absorbed into other company networks, but with a staff of 400 people there will likely be layoffs, the Times reported.
This is a developing story.
