“A new and very different Ferrari is coming.” The Italian supercar manufacturer has finally offered an official look at its controversial launch of the SUV, the 2023 Ferrari Purosangue, in a teaser ad that the new model will debut sometime later this year. It’s Ferrari’s answer to the Lamborghini Urus, Aston Martin DBX, and Bentley Bentayga high-performance SUVs that were once equally controversial.
Ferrari finally shot the Purosangue on Wednesday, offering a picture of the front, and not much else. The announcement seeks to justify the existence of the new SUV, reading: “A car whose bloodline can be traced back through our 75-year history of innovation, evolution and uncompromising performance. Standby for a real game changer. Everything will be revealed later this year ginn. “.
Ferrari’s intention with its first SUV is to create a new segment for itself, possibly shifting the resources used for niche models like the Ferrari GTC4Lusso into something better positioned for what’s currently popular on the market: SUVs. The Purosangue will run on a version of the Ferrari Roma modular front engine platform. It will have more ground clearance than other Ferraris, with all-wheel drive and potentially height-adjustable suspension, likely for some very light, and very fast offroading.
Ferrari had previously promised it would do its best to get a V-12 in the package, but that depends on new European fuel economy regulations. If it gets 12 cylinders, we can expect somewhere around 789 horsepower, which is what the 812 GTS is capable of with a V-12. We also expect Ferrari to offer some form of plug-in hybrid powertrain, and expect all models to get the familiar eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
