A school teacher who rapped for nearly 40 hours says he’s proud to be the world record holder.
Daniel Alcon, from Wimbledon in south-west London, broke the Guinness World Record for “longest freestyle rap marathon” last month.
The 35-year-old English teacher, who lives in Valencia, was successful on his second application after failing last year.
He missed two nights of sleep while setting the new mark, which Guinness World Records has since ratified.
The teacher, who raps under the name DAlcon, said his motivation is to raise awareness for Key Changes, a label exclusively for musicians with mental health issues.
After falling an hour short of setting a new world record last year, DAlcon was determined to succeed on his second attempt.
“I’m very proud,” he said.
“I’ve done it before, which I failed to do, and it really hurt me.
“I just can’t believe I did it again. I’ve decided to do it again and relief, relief is the word.”
Witnesses were on hand to ensure the teacher adhered to the trial’s strict rules, which included giving him only a five-minute break for each hour tapped and 30 seconds to catch his breath between taps.
“One of the hardest moments was in the first song when I felt uninspired,” he added.
“Before the challenge I was nervous, but once the challenge started I was a bit like a machine, I was just like ‘go ahead’.”
