First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said new licenses for oil and gas exploration in the North Sea should only be granted if a “robust” climate impact assessment is carried out.
Speaking ahead of her party’s conference in Aberden, SNP leader BBC Scotland said she didn’t think the current system was robust enough.
“We need to make a careful and just transition from oil and gas, which is what my administration is focused on,” she said.
“The path to lower energy costs and energy security is renewable energy.”
