A nine-year-old girl from Scarborough has raised money to provide food for their Christmas dinners for families in need.
Lils said she decided to help after speaking to her mum and dad, who run a charity.
The money raised would be used to buy basic groceries and spent in the week leading up to the big day, Lils said.
After she exceeded her fundraising goal, families would also receive money to pay for energy costs for the day, she said.
Lil’s parents run the charity Closer Communities, which supports parents and carers of children with disabilities.
Speaking to BBC Radio York, Lils said: “I thought some families are struggling and they don’t really get Christmas dinner every year and I wanted to help.”
The groceries would be purchased on December 19 and then distributed to 10 families chosen from the nominees the following day, Lils said.
She used her own cooking skills to reach her fundraising goal, she added.
“I’ve worked at craft fairs and bake sales,” she explained.
Lil’s interest in cooking and baking started during lockdown, she said, and since then she’s been sharing her recipes and tips on social media under the Skills With Lils banner.
“In lockdown, I saw my dad cooking in the kitchen and I said, ‘Can I cook with you?’ From there it really started.
“I liked cooking with him because I could spend time with him.”
Lils was originally hoping to raise around £250 but has already raised over £600 for Christmas lunch.
Papa Graham said they had also received many donations from Scarborough businesses.
“It just came out of the idea. I was like, ‘Wow, brilliant idea’. I never thought it would come to so much money.
“So we have enough to pay for gas and electricity for families on Christmas Day.
“You can leave the heating on all day and it won’t cost you anything and your dinner is sorted,” he said.
